How to choose: HMIs
Choosing an HMI
Choose the screen size and resolution for the operator distance and the amount of information to show. Confirm that the HMI has a driver for your PLC or drive, the ports you need (Ethernet, USB, RS-232 or RS-485), enough memory for recipes and alarm history, a front-panel rating suited to the location, and a panel cut-out that matches your enclosure. Text panels are a lower-cost option when only a few lines of text and function keys are needed.
