Matching a controller to a machine
A CNC controller reads part programs (G-code and M-code) and drives the machine axes and spindle. Specify the machine type (turning or milling), the number of axes and channels, the spindle interface, the servo interface (pulse, analogue or fieldbus), the display size and the PLC and I/O capacity needed for turret, tool changer, coolant and door interlocks. When retrofitting, the existing servo drives and spindle largely decide which controller interfaces are required.
