How to choose: temperature controllers and process instruments
Specifying a temperature controller
Confirm the sensor input first: thermocouple types J, K, T, R and S or an RTD such as Pt100. Then the control action (ON/OFF or PID with auto-tune), the output (relay, SSR drive or 4–20 mA), the panel size (for example 48 x 48 mm or 96 x 96 mm) and any alarm outputs. For heaters, pair the controller with a solid-state relay or thyristor power controller sized to the load current and mounted with adequate heat sinking.
