How to choose: servo systems
What a servo system is
A servo system pairs a servo drive with a servo motor that carries an encoder. The drive closes the loop on position, speed or torque, which lets a machine follow a motion profile accurately and hold position under load. Servo systems are common on CNC axes, packaging and labelling machines, cutting and feeding lines and pick-and-place units.
How to size one
Work out the torque needed at the load, including friction and acceleration, then the speed at the motor after any gearbox ratio. Check both continuous and peak torque against the motor curve. Keep the load inertia within the ratio the manufacturer recommends for the motor so the axis stays stable and responsive. Then confirm the supply voltage, the command interface (pulse and direction, analogue, RS-485/Modbus, EtherCAT or CANopen), the encoder type and resolution, whether a holding brake is required and the cable length between drive and motor.

What to include in your enquiry
Having these details ready lets us confirm a model and quote in one step.
- Axis type (linear or rotary), load mass or inertia and stroke or diameter
- Required speed, acceleration and duty cycle
- Supply voltage and phase
- Command interface: pulse/direction, analogue, RS-485 or EtherCAT
- Holding brake, encoder type and cable length
- Existing drive or motor model if this is a replacement
