How to choose: PLCs and controllers
What to specify for a PLC
Start with the input and output list: how many digital inputs and outputs, whether outputs are relay or transistor (NPN or PNP), and how many analogue or temperature channels. Add spare capacity for future changes. Then check program memory and scan speed, high-speed counters and pulse outputs if the PLC will position axes, the communication ports (RS-232, RS-485 Modbus, Ethernet, CANopen, EtherCAT), the supply voltage and how the unit expands.
Motion and I/O expansion
Motion controllers coordinate several servo axes over a fieldbus such as EtherCAT and often include PLC logic. Remote I/O modules extend a controller with extra digital and analogue channels over the same bus, which reduces wiring on larger machines.

What to include in your enquiry
Having these details ready lets us confirm a model and quote in one step.
- Number of digital inputs and outputs, and the output type needed
- Analogue or temperature channels required
- Communication needed: Modbus, Ethernet, CANopen or EtherCAT
- Axes to be positioned, if any
- Existing PLC brand or program that must be matched
